Our master bathroom is situated in the "wealth" area of the home. ACK! I keep the drains plugged and the toilet lid down. But, I'm worried about the "drain" on our finances. I'd like to paint and fix up the area but don't have a clue where to start. Any ideas?
I'm not sensing that your main problem is your bathroom.... but in bathrooms in general, earth tones are fantastic additions because elementally they contain and help dampen down the watery feeling of bathrooms. I love painting bathroom ceilings to help draw the energy upward. Plants, floral patterns, blues, greens and stripes can also help absorb the water.
My sense is that there's a "flow" challenge in your space -- more of an architectural situation. That would probably require a virtual consult to see your floor plan, more photos, etc. so we can diagnose that problem a bit better... It feels like there's something happening between your front door and back of the home... do you see the back door or back windows from the front door? Or is it the opposite, and it's tough to find your way to the back parts of the house? Not sure what it is I'm feeling, but I think the troubles might be more centrally located in the home....
Fix up that bathroom, have fun in the process, perhaps put the Young Living Oil "Abundance" into the paint can before painting (you can get that on my products page... it's amazing! And a great purfume too - yum!).... and send us more info or give a ring for a virtual consult and hopefully we can help you out!
ok...basically I am totally new to this stuff, so forgive me if I ask a silly question or two. I am getting ready to move in a few weeks to the house that my husband grew up in (I take care of his Dad, and finances are tight trying to cover all of his expenses, so we have to give up our house). This is a major move, because we are having to downsize from a huge Victorian home into a small 4 bdrm that is maybe half the size! I have spent hours measuring and plotting where every piece of furniture is going to go...figuring out what I have to get rid of b/c it just won't fit, etc. I am fairly confident that I can make it all work...somehow, someway...BUT the kitchen is my biggest concern. Now, the kitchen is a great size, which I am happy about, but the decor leaves a lot to be desired in my book! This kitchen is stuck in an era all it's own! The cabinets are cool, there is a good amount of counterspace...that's all fine...the problem occurs when you look at the walls! The main color is this goldish yellow, that kinda looks like mustard! The wallpaper...OMG...is vegetables...VEGETABLES EVERYWHERE...in oranges, puke greens, yellows, and browns! THEN...the floor...ORANGE linoleum! Now, my husband likes the kitchen...mostly b/c it reminds him of his Mom, and I can appreciate that, BUT I HATE THE KITCHEN COLORS!!!! I want the kitchen to have an updated look, and yet still manage to keep his Mom's wallpaper (YUCK!!!), so that the kitchen will be a pleasant place to prepare meals for my family. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this task...and do it for little of nothing?? PLEASE HELP ME!!! LOL!!!
I would remove the wallpaper first and foremost. Get that down so a new color can be put in it's place. Color changes a space like you can't believe! An old kitchen with a new, modern, beautiful tone on the walls, even with the linoleum flooring, can begin to look quite spectacular.
Post photos up on this site for us, and let folks take a look at you go through your amazing kitchen transformation! I'm sensing that a pinkish-peachy-orange might be lovely. Once we see photos I can confirm this....
Congrats on the new space! New spaces bring new experiences...how exciting!
Thanks for your reply! I would love to remove the wallpaper, but my hubby doesn't want me too. I can get him to agree to removing some of it, but not all of it. I might have to work that out though...lol. Also, I am concerned about removing it b/c I have no idea what condition the walls are underneath. Can I just as easily primer and paint over it? I love the color idea, and it is actually pretty much along the lines of what I would have chosen, now it is just getting hubby to agree. Oh, and the biggest obstacle is making sure my father-in-law doesn't go ballistic when he sees all the changes I am making.
When I get the opportunity, I will have to post some pics. I have also just repainted the dining room. It was all brown before...brown striped wallboard on bottom and beige on top, with dark brown carpet (carpet stays). It was tolerable, but I needed to update it. So, I pulled the colors from my dining room set, gathered a bunch of color swatches, and my ending colors are....Chocolate cherry for the bottom of the walls, a Victorian Gold for the top of the walls and the ceiling (the ceiling was a risk I just had to take and it looks great), and an Amazon green for the trim. The difference in the feel of the room before and after is amazing! It was so dull and drab before, and now it feels rich and elegant. My husband will be putting in our crystal chandelier, which was his Mom's, and I just know the colors are going to play beautifully off the lighting!
Thanks for your advice...look forward to hearing from you again soon!
Hi , Butterfly.. I've been though a simlair situation and I think on one of the eposides from Stephanie show was to take a picture of how it looks now, when your husband still has these feelings and put this specail photo where he can see it and maybe work around the colors ..
I'm having major problems and finshing getting out kitchen back together. we have a small -3- family and have been cooking downstairs but we can not eat as a family because their is No table to sit around.. we tried eating with the folding tables and chairs and that doesn't work because of the small space , any ideas to bring the family together ??
If your home is challenging, start by making a weekly family ritual... perhaps every Thursday evening you and your family go out for a bike ride in the closest park, or take a walk and spend some quality time, or go out for a silly adventure. Creating this sort of bond is so important with families AND couples! Every couple, no matter the circumstances, needs a date night. It doesn't have to cost money, or take much time, but without this sort of bonding and intimacy, things in life can very easily get out of balance. So see where you can create some fun, creative ways to build ritual and closeness into your family.
Also make sure that your home is clean, not cluttered, and the seating is arranged to 'talk" to one another, not gathered solely around the tv. Any way you can build in areas of connection into your home, the better!
Hey Stephanie!
Just wanted to let you know that I completed the painting in the dining room and even placed some pieces of furniture, and hung a picture! It looks so cool! When I post the pic, I would love to get your feedback.
Today, I am going to the house to work on the kitchen! My husband told me yesterday that I should go ahead and get rid of the wallpaper! Yippee! So, my 16 yr old and I poured over paint swatches, looking for a pinkish-peachy-orange, just like you said. We came up with an awesome choice...at least I think so anyway. The main color for the room is going to be...drumroll.......Mango Tango ( this is going on the lower half of the walls and also on one entire wall as a focal point)...the next color is Picture Perfect, a really pretty soft and airy green (it will be going on the upper walls and as random accents throughout the kitchen)...and last, our trim color is going to be Spun Gold (this color really seems to pull the other 2 together nicely). Eventually, when I get an opportunity, I will be refinishing the wood cabinets...the plan is to woodburn an island scene that flows from one cabinet door to the next. My husband is building me an island in the center of my kitchen, and I have a beautiful Phillipine lazy susan (it stands three feet high!) which will sit in the center!
Anyway, Can you let me know what you think of the color choices? I am really happy with them! I love the way the colors we picked and the colors in the linoleum flow together, and they even match the stained glass light fixture in the kitchen. Also, when I compared the colors from the dining room and the kitchen, they also seem to flow together nicely.
Thanks again for all your help (and thank you Lotus Flower ;0) for your encouragement ) Have a great day!
Can you upload photos of your space? It's tough to comment on your colors without seeing a bit more... Have you already painted? What's the status so far????
You should be so proud of yourself for changing the energy in your home...
The only color that I et a strange feeling about is the gold color. How does it look, if it's already done...
Oh boy! I am learning about Feng Shui. When I look at the diagram of the nine zones which i already wrote the diagram on my notes and study as much as i can. In my thinking- Should I use all nine zones in my bedroom? my husband I have our own separte bedroom, so I can do anything I want for my bedroom. ( I know for sure that i used the wrong color on my wall which is a little bit of bright green) Should I based on nine zones on the house and see where my bedroom fit or can i use all nine zones in my bedroom? I'm confuse! I need your advise.
